Management Accountant

Job Purpose

To support the Financial Controller in providing accurate and timely financial information to all stakeholders.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Daily maintenance of the cashbooks and posting of banking transactions in Evision for both the CHAP Group and CHAP Holdings entities
  • Monthly bank reconciliations for all company bank accounts
  • Preparation of the monthly management accounts for all divisions
  • Completion of concise monthly management commentaries – turnover, cost of sales and overheads for inclusion within the board pack
  • Preparation of consolidated management accounts
  • Calculation of banking covenants
  • Compiling the monthly management accounts pack for review by the board
  • Preparation of accurate monthly Balance Sheet reconciliations which detail actions to be taken on open items prior to being passed to the Financial Controller for review
  • Reconcile the cost ledger and the general ledger each month prior to the draft trading reports being submitted to the Commercial team
  • Book and review the monthly GRNI accrual with a high degree of accuracy
  • Reconcile HP creditors on a monthly basis, including the addition of any new agreements into the HP schedule and the reallocation of HP interest into the Profit & Loss Account
  • Responsible for maintaining the integrity of the company’s Fixed Asset Register, including capitalising assets in the month in the month in which they are acquired
  • Timely and accurate preparation of the Group’s quarterly VAT return, whilst displaying a thorough understanding of the fundamental principles of VAT
  • Inter Divisional invoicing, monthly reconciliation of debtor & creditor balances, posting contra entries to eliminate balances and resolving differences
  • Posting ad-hoc entries e.g contract reallocations, staff expenses, red diesel issues, credit cards
  • Book contract sales certificates and sales invoices as requested by the Commercial team
  • Create new contracts in Evision, ensuring that the F110 form has all fields populated by the Commercial team
  • Process the weekly wages journal
  • Assist the Financial Controller in responding to queries from company auditors. A sound understanding of the underlying principles of auditing and the objectives of various audit tests is therefore required
  • Supporting the stores in carrying out annual stock takes. Provide detailed analysis of all discrepancies, identifying causes for inaccuracies and remedial/preventative action to be taken going forward
  • Support the Financial Controller and Commercial team with ongoing development and streamlining of commercial reporting and other business processes
  • Deputise for the Financial Controller in their absence, thus providing continuity to both the financial reporting process and the day-to-day operation of the finance function

Qualifications 

Essential:

Degree in an accounting related discipline or qualified by experience

  • Prior experience of working at Management Accounting level
  • Demonstrate knowledge of how to implement best practice in accounting and auditing
  • Demonstrate ability to communicate effectively with those around them. Strong team working skills are an absolute must in this role
  • Demonstrate accuracy when recording all accounting transactions
  • Demonstrate excellent time management and prioritisation skills
  • Exercise a high degree of discretion in all business matters
  • Computer Literacy – exemplary knowledge of accounting packages and advanced Excel user skills
  • Methodical, logical and motivated
  • Ability to work using own initiative, with minimal guidance required to complete ad-hoc tasks
  • A self-starter who thrives in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to produce accurate, high quality work at all times. Also to learn quickly and assimilate complex information
  • An inquisitive, analytical mindset
