Assistant Site Manager

Due to increased work within our Construction Division we have a vacancy for an Assistant Site Manager to join the team.

Job Purpose

To assist/supervise all employees/subcontractors on site and assist in day to day site operations.  Act as deputy for the Site Manager.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities

    • Ensuring health and safety standards and regulations are complied with.
    • Make/assist in fundamental decisions regarding operations on site.
    • Liaise with architects and engineers regarding drawings and specifications.
    • Supervising employees and allocating work on a daily basis.
    • Supervision of all non-employees on site eg contractors, agency personnel, work experience placements.
    • To check quality of work produced and ensure the project is running to schedule.
    • Implement changes to the programme or specifications.
    • Ensuring that all material required is available on site.
    • Provide/assist in material take off in order to quantify materials.
    • Assist in producing a ‘snag’ list prior to completion of project
    • Completion of appropriate allocation and day work sheets.
    • Ensure and assist in compliance with the requirements of the SMSTS provisions.
    • Ensure and assist in compliance with the CHAP Management systems and requirements of the relevant standards (ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018).



  • CSCS Card
  • Drivers licence


  • CITB SMSTS site supervisor certificate, or be able to achieve this within a reasonable timeframe
  • Bachelor Degree related to construction, civil engineering or the built environment
  • Management qualification NVQ/SVQ level 4 is desirable (holds or is currently undertaking or is willing to achieve in a timely manner)
  • Construction trade craft apprenticeship
  • First Aid


Essential Criteria:

  • Sufficient knowledge and experience to assist in the managing of the construction of multi-disciplinary highly serviced buildings.
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to influence, persuade, guide and motivate others.
  • Excellent time management and prioritisation skills.
  • Computer Literacy – including proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Construction experience – trade or site engineering background.
  • Previous supervising experience including directing site works.
  • Ability to maintain up-to-date knowledge of best practice.
  • Ability to demonstrate experience of effectively dealing with operational issues, opportunities and obstacles.
