CHAP was awarded a contract by Aberdeen City Council in 2021 to construct 70 residential flats in the city. These flats are located on the site of the former St Machar Primary School.
The project involved the construction of high-quality ‘gold standard’ accommodation and all associated infrastructure including roads, parking areas, drainage, services and amenity spaces on behalf of the Council. The accommodation includes a mixture of 1, 2 and 3-bedroom properties. All flats will be available for social rent tenure by Aberdeen City Council.
The flats are contained within six blocks with a maximum height of 3 storeys. The development includes 15% accessible units for the integration of Varying Needs, including those with additional support needs. This requirement goes beyond simply providing suitable accommodation for wheelchair users and will address for example, Dementia friendly design. The needs of elderly and disabled people underlie every aspect of the development.
The combination of buildings, street and open spaces will positively influence the character of the local community.
With the buildings designed and built to ‘gold standard’ of sustainability and energy efficiency, the development represents a positive shift in the standards of affordable housing undertaken by local authorities and contractors.
